Afterlife

… and what happens after my death.

… and while my breath catches,
and my sight fades away
black as night, black as death,
my soul separates from the flesh,
deep as space, deep as the sea.

Afterlife, which way will I go,
where will the streams carry me,
Blood-red rivers of this world, far from the living,
reach out for me, carry me away.

My grip on life loosens forever,
wide as the sky, the horizon far away,
My lifeless flesh, so far behind me,
My senses fail me.

Afterlife, which way will I go,
where will the streams carry me,
Blood-red rivers of this world, far from the living,
reach out for me, carry me away.

Fighting against the current, resisting the power,
Damnation forever, no light far and wide
Will I have the strength
to break free?

A new life,
In the light of the world
seems worth striving for,
But is it my destiny?

O spirits of the underworld, I beseech you,
What is my destiny?
No one has ever come back from this place
To reveal what they saw.

Afterlife, which way will I go,
where will the streams carry me,
Blood-red rivers of this world, far from the living,
reach out for me, carry me away.
